About the Mahotsav

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, managed through its CPSE, North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC), is set to host the inaugural edition of "Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024." Scheduled from January 13th to 17th at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, this cultural extravaganza promises to unveil the richness of North East India.

Secretary Shri Chanchal Kumar shared insights during a media briefing, emphasizing the Mahotsav's meticulous curation to showcase the diverse tapestry of Northeast India. Beyond a celebration, it's envisioned as a cultural mosaic fostering economic opportunities.The Mahotsav will feature 250 participants, including weavers, farmers, and entrepreneurs. Panel discussions and buyer-seller meets will be organized, providing a platform for exchanges in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, agro products, and tourism. The event aims to catalyze growth and development in the region.

  • Handicrafts, Handlooms and Agri-Horti produce: Showcase of handcrafted products, handloom textiles, sustainable handicrafts, and indigenous fruits of Northeast India.
  • Panel Discussions: Panel discussions on Northeast's role in national progress, women leaders, and the economic contributions of youth will add depth to the Mahotsav.
  • Buyer Seller Meets: Buyer-seller meets will focus on handlooms, handicrafts, agro products, and tourism, fostering valuable interactions.

Inauguration and Foundation Laying

During the “Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024”, Barak Hostel at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will be inaugurated. The hostel can accommodate 400 students from NER desirous of studying in JNU. Furthermore, the foundation stone of a North East Convention Centre also will be laid at Dwarka, New Delhi. This convention centre will be built at par with international standards and will serve as a cultural and information hub of North East India in Delhi.
